In 2017, Puerto Rican singer Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee released Despacito and it became the most-streamed song in just six months. The song is a blend of reggaeton, pop and rock not only brought renewed interest to reggaeton, but also brought attention towards Latin music generally. The Billboard Top 100 featured two songs that were Spanish predominantly, as well as four songs in the year 2016. At the peak of Despacito's popularity, however 19 mostly Spanish songs made it to the Top 100, and in 2020 there were 41 such songs. After Justin Bieber released his bilingual remix of Despacito in the year 2017 the most well-known artists began to join forces with reggaeton performers. Drake and Bad Bunny collaborated on MIA (2018) as did Madonna and Maluma. Madonna joined forces with Maluma for Medellin, 2019 Certain reggaeton performers expressed their displeasure at the rise of popular music by 2020. A new group, Rauw Alejandro wanted to maintain the development and growth of reggaeton. It was often associated with electronic dance and other styles.
